Summary

A small circular peaty mound on the edge of an area of turbary was noted during field survey following a wildfire in 2022. It was suggested to represent the remains of a turf stack of medieval or post-medieval date.

Full Description

SS 7197 4441. A small circular peaty mound on the edge of an area of turbary was noted on the western side of Ilkerton Ridge during field survey following a wildfire in 2022. The mound was measured as 2 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high. The mound was suggested to represent a medieval or post-medieval turf stack. [1]
