Site Event/Activity record EEM15002 - 2014: SV - Pinkery site
Technique(s)
Organisation
Exmoor National Park Authority
Date
May 2014
Description
A feature was identified during a guided walk on 7 May 2014 in a cross section created by a recent collapse, with layers of charcoal visible. A zone of heated substrate suggested in situ heating, and was thought to represent a hearth of c. 1 metres diameter. The stratigraphy suggested the site may predate tree clearance on the slopes, and its position in a steep narrow valley suggests a potential Mesolithic date.
