A railway designed primarily to carry iron ore from the Brendon Hill mines to Watchet, although it also carried passengers. It was built in 1856-61 and closed in 1898. It ran again in 1907-1916.

An 18th Century landscape park to Pixton Park House, referred to as a 'deer park' on the Ordnance Survey map of 1891. Earthworks of ornamental ponds, a terraced drive and an emparked field system were recorded during survey work in 1996.

The Royal Forest is thought to originate in the Saxon period and was the land legally reserved as hunting grounds for the king.
