MSO9199 - Possible post-medieval water meadows on Codsend and Hoar Moors (Monument)
Summary
Please read the Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record caveat document.
Type and Period (1)
Protected Status
Full Description
Water meadow system made up of leats running roughly east to west on Codsend and Hoar Moors. May be confused to some extent with the prehistoric field system (MSO9193), although the latter has a different alignment. [1] The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England survey found no trace of this system which is probably a combination of recent enclosure, the prehistoric system and the mill leat (MSO11183). The 19th Century drainage runs north to south following the enclosure boundaries. [2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
