MSO12043 - Tamarisk, 2 The Ball, Dunster (Building)

Late 18th century or early 19th century. Colourwashed render. Half-hipped plain tile roof, brick chimney stack. Two storeys. Five windows, 2-light wooden casements to first floor, 3-light wooden casements to ground floor, glazing bars. Central panelled door, later tiled hood on brackets. Included for group value. [3] The building was visited in May 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 6. [4] The building is shown on 2018 MasterMap data and is labelled "2". [5] The building is mentioned in the 2018 Conservation Area Appraisal for Dunster. The report says that the house has a single storey former smithy built of local sandstone rubble to the rear. [6] The smithy is depicted and labelled on the 25 inch 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps. Both the smithy and the house are similarly shown on these mapping editions to its present arrangement shown on the 2022 MasterMap data, with some small additions. [7,8,9]
