Summary

A farmhouse dating from the 16th Century, which has been converted into two dwellings. It is built from rendered rubble, with a brick porch and slate roof, with a bread oven projecting from an external stack on the right gable end.

Full Description

Farmhouse, now 2 dwellings. C16, altered C19 and late C20. Roughcast over rubble, brick porch, slate roof, external stack right gable end with bread oven projection and brick chimney, roughcast stack between first and second bays left, large lateral stack to right of entrance. L-plan: possibly 3-cell and cross passage with south-east wing set into steep bank facing west. Two storeys, irregular fenestration, 5 window facade, mostly early C19 3-light leaded casements first floor, end bay left unlit, two windows and small glazed opening left of stack, 2 windows right, ground floor 2 windows left of gabled porch with 2-light window, 2-light beyond stack, double flight of lateral stairs to the 2 entrances, retaining walls ramped down. Interior partially seen, steeply chamfered beams with step and runout stops in south end, evidence of jointed cruck truss roof. Formerly known as Chilcots Farmhouse. [1] English Heritage Listed Building Number: 265613. First Listed on 04/08/1986. [2] L-plan. Stone, Render, roughcast and pebbledash walls. Gabled roof [3] The buildings were visited in March 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. They received a BAR score of 6. [4] The buildings were assessed as part of the 2018-19 rapid condition survey of Exmoor’s Listed Buildings, receiving a BAR score of 6. [5]
