Full Description
A post-medieval contour leat, possibly related to the water meadow system at Emmett's Grange (MSO6926), is visible as an earthwork north of Kinsford Water, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7651 3661, the leat follows the contours of the west facing slope above an unnamed tributary of Kinsford Water and measures approximately 230 metres in length. It is similar in size and form to the leats and gutters of the Emmett's Grange system (MSO6926), but there is no obvious physical connection between the two. It certainly dates to the post-medieval period, and is probably part of the mid 19th Century agricultural improvements by the Knight family. [1-2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
