Full Description
A small depression is visible in a field north of Bryant's Cottages, Carhampton, resembling a small backfilled quarry or extractive pit. Centred at SS 9789 4158 the oval pit measures approximately 18 metres across, and is cut into a gentle north facing slope. It is not depicted or annotated on the 1st Wdition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting it was abandoned prior to publication in 1889. It may have been a stone quarry related to the construction of either Bryant's Cottages or Broadwood Farm, and dates to either the medieval or post-medieval periods.
