MMO2376 - Possible Bronze Age cairn on Hoccombe Hill (Monument)

Full Description
A small circular mound on Hoccombe Hill, Brendon has been interpreted as a possible Bronze Age cairn. Centred at approximately SS 7843 4376 and measuring 3.5 metres in diameter, it lies in a prominent position between two previously recorded cairns, overlooking Hoccombe Water. There are a number of previously recorded cairns in the area. However, the site also lies within the Exmoor firing range and the feature could also be related to military activity in the area. [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
