Full Description

A small rectangular pit was identified during a survey in 2024 [1]. The pit is notable for a bank of spoil on its east side, and its placement on a sloping spur at Embercombe Head, centred on SS 85924 41544. It is 4m N/S and 3.6m EW, and pproximately 0.5m in depth. The pit is located across Embercombe Water fprom a post medieval industrial landscape composed of quarries and pits, and it seems likely that it was a trial pit for stone or ironstone from this period of activity.
