MEM25344 - Post-medieval building opposite the Fox and Goose Inn, Parracombe (Building)

Almost opposite the Fox and Goose Inn, and marked on early Ordnance Survey maps is a former Smithy within a long range built of a mixture of stone and render with a slate roof, probably dating from the early to mid 19th Century. [1] The linear range is shown on the 2022 MasterMap data at SS 6675 4478. [2] The buildings are shown on the 25 inch 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps. They are labelled "Smithy" on the southeastern side. [3,4] The buildings are shown on the Tithe Map for Parracombe in a reduced plan form. [5] The building is mentioned in the 2019 Conservation Area Appraisal for Parracombe. It is noted to be of two build phases and thought to originate in the mid 19th Century. [6] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [7]
