Full Description

A building is shown at approximately SS 9870 3344 on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 1 inch mapping 1802-3 [1]. This area is called `Mill Mead' on the Withiel Florey Tithe Map, but no buildings are shown, so the mill was presumably disused by this time [2]. The area is very overgrown and marshy. A dry leat, comrising a cutting 0.6 metres high approaches from the northeast. Adjacent to it is a smoothed scoop 1.2 metres high and 4 metres long running down the hillside. This may well be a wheel pit. The remainder of the site is too overgrown to allow a confident assessment of the field remains. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
