Full Description

An unlabelled bridge is shown on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map crossing the River Barle at SS 7608 3872. [1] The feature is labelled "F.B." or footbridge on the 25 inch 2nd Edition map. [2] The feature is not shown on 2021 MasterMap data, and appears to have been removed. [3] The location of this bridge is marked with an X and labelled "Corham Hunting Gate" (IE Cornham) on a sketch map dating from c.1849. It was likely drawn by Robert Smith. [4] It is not clear if a gate was actually present at the site, or if the name "Gate" referred to the older meaning of "way". [5]
