Summary

Winsford Sheep Fair was held annually in the "Fairfield" behind the Royal Oak. Long narrow enclosures can be seen beside the road in locations such as Comer's Gate and Heathpoult where flocks were rested overnight.

Full Description

Winsford Sheep Fair was held annually in the "Fairfield" behind the Royal Oak. Large sheep flocks were driven down to the fair for auctioning, and then often driven to Dulverton Station to be transported onwards. Long narrow enclosures can be seen beside the road in locations such as Comer's Gate and Heathpoult where flocks were rested overnight. [1] Winsford was designated as a conservation area in 2023. The new appraisal was produced as part of the adoption of the conservation area. [2]
