MEM23475 - 20th Century signpost south of Chibbet Post (Building)

A guide post is marked on modern MasterMap data. [1] The signpost was visited in October 2015 and its condition assessed. It has SCC (Somerset County Council) repeated on the four sides of a pyramid finial. The attached fingers read: EXFORD 1 MINEHEAD 15 LANDACRE 2 WITHYPOOL 1 1/2 DULVERTON 9 B3223 SIMONSBATH 5 LYNTON 15 B3223 The post was made by Sheldon Wells. [2] N.B. Other photographs held in the project archive show the third finger (direction: Withypool and Dulverton) was snapped off. [2] SS 8431 3775. Chibbet Post (MEM23475) is on an early road over Winsford Hill. Chibbet Post is named on the 1889 and 1902-7 Ordnance Survey maps. [3,4]. Unusually there are two posts here, both of mid 20th Century Sheldon Wells type. [5] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in February 2024. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [6]
