Full Description

This feature belongs to a collection of earthworks which were previously interpreted as a prehistoric field system and associated burial mound (see MSO10133). These have been analysed and reinterpreted as a complex of drainage channels. To ensure the record is clear, child records have been created for each feature and linked to the parent record for the whole complex (MSO10133) where full details of the progression of interpretation can be seen. [1] Field investigation in 2013 noted this feature as an irregular, ovoid mound, covered in grass and reeds. This lies 6 metres south of the nearby drainage ditch (MEM23337). The mound is peaty and measures 7.5 metres north-south, 6.4 metres east-west and 0.3-0.6 metres high. It was previously interpreted a probable prehistoric burial mound within a contemporary field system (see MSO10133) but this mound is far more likely to be the result of the use of the spur for agriculture in the 19th and 20th centuries.
