Full Description

The building was surveyed by the National Trust in 1996. It was built on the site of an earlier building belonging to the White House and was built by Sir Charles Thomas Dyke Acland between the 2nd ed. OS map of 1903 and the 1929 OS map. [1] Culver Cottage is a late example (c.1910) of the use of local red sandstone. Culver Cottage is early 20th century and stone-built with 10-light casement windows, set within segmental arched openings. It has a plain tiled roof with brick stacks, and is an important visual stop at this end of the village. [2] The building is mentioned in the 2018 Conservation Area Appraisal for Luccombe. [3] Culver Cottage is depicted and labelled on the 2022 MasterMap data. [4] The house is shown on the 25 inch 3rd Edition Ordnance Survey map. [5] The site of the house is occupied by a barn on the 25 inch 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map, recorded as MEM22262. [6] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [7]
