MEM22208 - Smithy, Doverhay, Porlock (Building)

Near the Manor is a single storey former Smithy, now the Doverhay Forge, dating from the mid 19th Century, and with a remarkably little altered frontage. [1] The smithy is labelled and shown as a rectangular building on the 25 inch 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps. [3,4] The site is shown as a rectangular building on the Tithe Map for Luccombe, and is recorded as a "Smiths Shop" in the Apportionment. [5] The building is labelled "Smithy" on the 2022 MasterMap data. It has been extended. [6] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [7]
