Full Description
Bracken Lea and Vale View at Higher Allerford are a mirrored pair, built of local sandstone. They are a late example of the stone built tradition (c.1918), in part the result of the Aclands’ desire that they be built of local materials by local people. They are the last of the estate cottages to be built in the village. [1] The houses are not depicted on the 25 inch 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map, confirming that they postdate this map. [2] The buildings are labelled Brackenlea and Vale View on the 2018 MasterMap data. [3] The buildings are orientated to take advantage of the long views towards the moorland to the southwest. [4] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [5]
