Site Event/Activity record ESO4 - 2001: WB - Dunster Castle driveway
Technique(s)
Organisation
AC Archaeology
Date
August 2001
Description
Examination of trenches along the drive around the south side of the tor recorded several earlier phases of drive, including a stone revetment of possibly two phases of construction in trench 1, but produced no dating evidence for them. Trench 4 contained abundant sandstone and flint inclusions with fragments of oyster shell and slate and this was interpreted as an earlier phase of road surface foundation, although at 1m depth its base was not reached.
