Description
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd. on peat cutting carried out for the creation of ditch blocks on land north of Driver Farm, Simonsbath. The ground works on site comprised the excavation of small areas of topsoil and peat to create ditch blockings as part of the mire restoration project. The cuttings were approximately 1m x 2m in size and excavated to a maximum depth of 0.4m.
In places the natural shillet bedrock was revealed, but typically the cuts were still within the topsoil/ peat deposits. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were revealed during the groundworks.
