Description
An archaeological evaluation, carried out in advance of development on land adjacent to Church Cottage, Countisbury, Lynton, Devon (SS 74733 49716), was undertaken by AC archaeology during November 2015. The site is located in a small triangular plot to the south of Countisbury Church, 3km east of Lynton.
The archaeological evaluation comprised the machine-excavation of a single ‘L-shaped’ trench, totalling 9.5m in length and 1.3m wide. This was positioned within the proposed development area. The trench contained no archaeological features or deposits. A sherd of medieval pottery dating to the 13th to 15th century was recovered from its subsoil layer.
