Local List: Medieval and post-medieval mill leat through Dulverton

Authority Exmoor National Park Authority
Date assigned 13 November 2023
Date last amended
Date revoked
The leat, as the conduit of water from the weir to the mills in Dulverton, will be contemporary with the weir and therefore is likely to originate in the medieval period. The design is not distinctive although sections of the base are reputedly paved or cobbled. It is of high value to Dulverton as a landmark feature connected to the weir and Dulverton’s industrial past by feeding water power to former mills. Its preservation and research into its history and related industries is pursued by a locally formed Trust. The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List.
