LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH SS7149 MARKET STREET, Lynton 858-1/4/39 (West side) 03/09/73 St Vincent - GV II Detached villa. Dated 1834. Smooth rendered, slate roof. A compact symmetrical central hall plan, with raised central gable pediment. 2 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. 6/6-pane sashes to stone cills and with plain reveals. The central 6-panel door with radial fanlight, on 3 slate steps with nosings, is set in a deep arched recess with a plastered groined vault carried on turned corbels in the corners. There are plain end pilasters, and the central gable has a scalloped barge-board, and inset date-stone. Each of the wide plain end gables has a deep brick stack. The rear has 3 small 2-light casement gabled dormers above modified 12-pane sashes and an 18-pane stair light; the lower ground floor has a central door, and a large inserted C20 panel to the right. To the left is a wide 16-pane sash with peaked head. INTERIOR: part of ground floor only inspected. The long narrow hall leads to a fine geometrical staircase in a tight semicircular well, with stick balusters, and swept handrail rising through the full height of the building; a basement stair descends to the right. Doors are generally original panelled with fine linear mould panel surrounds, in moulded architraves. Listing NGR: SS7203549375
